You realize, “Oh no, I don’t have any content!” No worries, friend! π
Before we get started…, I am not sponsored or employed by any of these companies or services. I am learning on my own to create websites and to code in JavaScript. I am not going to talk about products or services that I haven’t actually used or tried. I’ll share with you what I’m learning and what works for me. That said, if you know of some useful resources…, “Sharing is caring!” π Please leave me a comment or send me an email. Don’t worry, I’ll give you credit; because I’m not a stinker! π
Okay, let’s begin…
Where to find good-quality content:
- Placeholder Text
- Photos, Background Art, & Videos
- Clip Art
Placeholder Text
If you need text to fill your page with, you could write your own paragraphs and articles. However, if you are just needing some random text to fill your web page, you should use a Lorem Ipsum Generator. I like to use the one at https://loremipsum.io/.
Other popular options are:
- https://www.lipsum.com/
I think that the two best looking, and easiest to navigate of these are: loremipsum.io & getlorem.com.
Photos, Background Art, & Videos
For photos and background art, I recommend that you use Pexels.com, Pixabay.com, or Shutterstock.com. Each service offers high-quality stock photos and backgrounds, and each will require you to set up an account. There are many other sources available, just be sure to read the licensing details before you start using their art. Keep yourself out of trouble! π
Pexels’ and Pixabay’s photos are completely free to use, and allow you to create without worrying about licensing. You always have the option, though: to credit the artist in your work, to show them some appreciation on social media, or to make a donation toward their work. Both offer a sizable and varied library of images; although, these libraries are not as large as some of the paid options.
Shutterstock offers a very limited collection of free art and video footage; as it’s focus is on providing packs of images for sale and subscriptions. With Shutterstock, you’ll gain access to a MUCH LARGER library of photos, but you’ll have to pay for that access.
I like to keep my learning / business expenses low. That’s why I suggest Pexels or Pixabay. When you get a job creating websites and web apps, your clients or company can help cover the expenses and provide the content. Do yourself a favor, save some money. Unless of course, you have your own content. πΈπΈπΈ
Clip Art
Sometimes you need a good piece of clip art. For those times, I use publicdomainvectors.org. As the name states, this site’s offerings are in the public domain; so it’s okay to use them for your projects. Why not take a look!

The Wrap-up
There is a lot of high-quality, low-cost content out there to use in your projects. The options mentioned above can help you get started for free. After all, you have to fill your web page with something. Just be sure to check out the licensing before using content created by other people. Also, don’t claim anyone else’s work as your own. As in, don’t claim you took the photos yourself. Nobody likes thieving varmints!

Now get out there and make good stuff! Go get ’em tiger!!! π―
